For years ( since 2007 ) there have been rumors that The Hobbit was going to go 3D, but Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson have both denied all the rumors, saying as recent as last August that “we are not talking about 3D, we are NOT writing the screenplay for 3D right now.” But this is why I love Guillermo del Toro .

In early 2009, just over a year ago, it was officially announced by The Weinstein Company that filmmaker Robert Rodriguez would be working on a brand new science fiction movie called Nerverackers . It was exciting news because we were all hoping this would be Rodriguez’ return to gritty, intense action movies since its been a while ( Planet Terror was in 2007, Sin City was in 2005)

Well, it’s over with those two at least, but a prequel may still get made. If you’ve been reading this site over the last six months or so, a lot has happened with the Bourne franchise. Last we heard at the beginning of February , director Paul Greengrass was still gone, and so was Matt Damon without him, but Universal was considering making a prequel before convincing these two to return.

Apparently I missed the memo that this week was going to be Huge Comic Book News Week, but alas, the hits just keep on coming as another high profile comic book character from DC Comics’ universe is in the midst of finally getting a director attached after years of being in development. IESB is reporting that Greg Berlanti , who recently wrote, produced and almost directed Green Lantern , is at the top contender to bring the speedy heroics of Barry Allen, aka The Flash , to the big screen. After yesterday’s big news surrounding the new Superman project , titled The Man of Steel , there’s no denying that DC Entertainment is on fire

There’s been lots of interesting things going on in the European movie exhibition industry recently, most of which flies by us because it’s a whole different industry. First up, Odeon Cinemas has boycotted Alice in Wonderland from their movie theaters in the UK, Ireland, Italy, and also the Netherlands because Disney changed the “release window” from four months after opening to 90 days ( we wrote about that here )

Even though most of you probably haven’t seen Splice yet, you’re most likely very familiar with Vincenzo Natali anyway, as he directed Cube , Cypher , and Nothing before Splice . Relativity Media announced today that Natali would next be directing their adaptation of the best-selling children’s books written by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams titled Tunnels
